What is your Why??


What is your Why?? This is a big question - in everything we do, and in this scenario - Organizing!!! Everyone will have their own answers, which is technically the right answer, in my opinion anyway 😉 Find your Why…before you even think about starting your organizing journey. Yep, I am jumping right into this topic, because it is a favourite. Find your Why! 


It is easy to just impulsively open your closet one day and start to pull everything out, get excited about the idea of a curated, less bulky and appealing looking closest space (and hey, this might actually work for some people!) - but that feeling can dissipate quickly when you find yourself buried under a heap of clothes and you’ve been there for hours, you have dinner plans in 20 minutes and you feel like you’ve accomplished nothing. Plus, you are now in a much bigger mess than you started with, and zero time to get back in there to finish anytime soon. Does this sound familiar? You are truly not alone. What went wrong? It was impulsive and you likely didn’t ask yourself Why you really want your closet to be organized. What is the goal and the vision? How do you want it to feel? How will you get there? When will you do it? 


To get it right, you really need to figure out your Why and devise a plan that will see you through from beginning to end in an efficient manner. 


As a Professional Organizer, I have had the pleasure of working with people on their organizing journeys and this is the first thing I ask. Each answer is different and personal, and it really helps me to plan our time together and the work I will do in their space. 


I am not going to give Why examples, because I deeply encourage you to really think about the reason Why you want and are ready to get organized. I promise, this will really help the process, even if it is a small task or down to just about everything in your home and life.

  Is Your Schedule To Full??? Thoughts from a Professional Organizer and How To Do Less Guilty over here! Do you open your calendar and see something scheduled for every day for the rest of 2024 and beyond? How does this make you feel? Stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted? Or a nice big blend of it all? Yes, to all!   There is the part of me that likes to know all the things that are coming up so I can plan accordingly, but I still ask myself, where is the time for relaxing and doing nothing, or for spontaneity? Here is the thing, all the things that I do have scheduled are things that I love and want to do. I just know it is too full and not sustainable in the long run. So what am I going to do about it?
